About the Role
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Seeking a Substitute Teacher who will be available to work full days in a preschool classroom on an as needed basis. The Substitute Teacher would work to ensure an inspired learning environment for the children by providing them with developmentally appropriate activities and providing a nurturing environment. The Substitute Teacher interacts positively and proactively with the children, their parents, and other staff in the classroom.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Developmentally appropriate, active interaction with the children
• Assist with classroom curriculum and room arrangement
• Assist with the organization and sanitation of the classroom
• Daily schedule adherence
• Maintaining the Center’s and State’s policies and procedures
• Maintaining staff/child ratios
• Assume any other duties as directed by supervisor or director
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES/SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS:
Desire to work with children through positive interaction is required. Prior experience in childcare setting and/or additional education beyond high school in the childcare field is preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required. Continuing education classes preferred. Bi-lingual preferred. CPR and First Aid, and Medication Administration/Injectables certifications required. Clean DCF background check required before the first day of work. Good time management, oral and written communication required. Dependable, flexible, and a team player required.
DECISION-MAKING RESPONSIBILITY:
The Substitute Teacher must adhere to the policies and procedures of The Neighbors’ School. The Substitute Teacher is responsible for classroom safety and sanitation. The Substitute Teacher must be able to comprehend instruction from the head teacher and must be able to maintain a friendly/professional rapport with the staff members and parents. The Substitute Teacher is responsible for supporting and implementing all decisions made by management. The Substitute Teacher must notify the owner of any limitations they may have in order to perform the essential functions of the job. The Substitute Teacher is encouraged to ask questions whenever unsure of a policy.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The Substitute must be cleared to work in a childcare setting by a physician as stated on the CT OEC Adult Medical Statement for Child Care. The Substitute Teacher must demonstrate full range of motion, be able to lift up to 40 lbs., maintain mental and physical alertness, and possess an appropriate level of energy to perform essential job requirements.
